Elizabeth Goode – Author

Elizabeth Goode graduated from San Francisco State with a B.A. in Creative Writing. She studied novel writing at the Prague Summer Program and has been writing middle grade and young adult novels for over 15 years. Elizabeth followed her love of reading and writing to pursue a Masters in Library and Information Science and worked as a Teacher-Librarian for over thirteen years in San Francisco and Seattle. She currently lives in Amsterdam with her husband, her daughter, and her yorkiepoo, Rufus Woofwright.

Elizabeth loves stories of fantasy and whimsy and dabbles in the dark realms of science fiction and magic when her mood desires it. Some of her favorite books are: Alice in Wonderland, Princess Bride, The Raven Cycle, Harry Potter, Cinder, Watchmen, Slaughterhouse-5, The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, The Tale of Despereaux, Dig, Carry On, Everything Sad is Untrue, and many more.

Elizabeth’s unpublished novel, How to Defeat a Pirate, about a descendant of Wendy Darling attempting to become a high school cheerleader with help from Peter Pan, won third place in the 2020 PNWA Literary Contest in the YA category. The same title earned her an SCBWI Western Washington mentorship with the author Kelly Jones in 2019. Her next novel, How Bright We Burn, was nominated for the 2021 PNWA Literary Contest in the YA category as the working title Smoke and Starlight. Her current novel, The Last Witch of Atherton Lane, has been long listed for Undiscovered Voices 2024. As a co-writer, Elizabeth’s pilot script for a limited series, Queens of the Sky, was a top ten finalist in Final Draft Big Break 2022 as well as a number of other writing competitions.

Books

How Bright We Burn, formerly titled Smoke and Starlight, was nominated for a PNWA 2021 award in the YA category. This science fiction novel follows Cass Ketelsen as she is chosen from obscurity to be the face of a campaign traveling to a distant planet only to find out that the campaign is not all that it seems.

How to Defeat a Pirate won third place in the PNWA 2020 Unpublished Writers contest in the YA category. Jane Darling wants to be accepted at her new school but when Peter Pan decides to help her become a Pirate cheerleader, things turn out for the worse, and the only way to fix them is to ally with her worst enemies, the cheerleaders of San Pietro High.

The Last Witch of Atherton Lane is Elizabeth’s current YA novel. A contemporary fantasy about sixteen year old Florence Moonchild who’s magical powers come into fruition when she moves in with her father, but the only way to learn how to control them is to find her mother who has disappeared without a trace. Last Witch was long listed in the UK Undiscovered Voices 2024 contest.
